Scanned ("Scanned," "we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the Scanned mobile application (the "App"), our website scannedapp.com and its subdomains, and our related services (together, the "Service").
Scanned is operated by 42 Dijital Yazılım Limited Şirketi ("the Company"), Barbaros Bulvarı No 163, Pınar Apt Kat 5 Daire 9, Balmumcu, Istanbul, Turkey. The Company is the data controller responsible for your information under this Privacy Policy.
By using the Service you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Privacy at a Glance
- Your scans stay on your device by default. Capturing documents and basic text recognition (OCR) happen locally on your device. We don't need an account for you to scan, save, and export documents.
- You don't have to create an account to use the core app. Sign-in is optional and only required for cloud sync across devices.
- We don't sell your personal information, and we don't show third‑party ads in the App.
- AI features are opt‑in. Features that use artificial intelligence send the relevant document text and/or page image to a third‑party AI provider only after you grant a one‑time, in‑app permission. That content is used only to perform your request — never to show you ads and never to train AI models.
- You can delete your account and associated cloud data from within the App at any time.
Definitions
To keep this policy clear, the following terms have these meanings:
- Company / we / us / our: 42 Dijital Yazılım Limited Şirketi, the entity responsible for your information.
- Service: the Scanned App, the scannedapp.com website, and related services.
- Device: any internet‑connected device (such as a phone or tablet) used to access the Service.
- Personal Data / Personal Information: any information that identifies, relates to, or can reasonably be linked to you.
- Documents / Content: the scans, page images, recognized text, signatures, and converted files (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF, etc.) that you create or store using the App.
- You: the individual using the Service.
What the App Does
Scanned turns your device camera into a document scanner. You can capture pages, ID cards, and passports; recognize and extract text (OCR); convert scans into editable Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files; add signatures; use AI tools (summarize, ask questions, translate, clean up text, extract tables, suggest file names, and categorize documents); and optionally sync your library across devices.
Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information, depending on how you use the Service.
Information you provide
- Account information. If you choose to create an account, we collect your email address and an authentication identifier. You can sign up with email and password, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google. Authentication is handled by Google Firebase Authentication.
- Your documents and content. Scans, page images, recognized text, signatures, and the editable files you create. These are stored locally on your device and are uploaded to our cloud only if you are signed in and sync is active (see "Cloud Sync & Storage").
- AI feature inputs. When you use an AI tool, the relevant document text and/or page image is processed by a third‑party AI provider (see "AI Features").
- Purchases. When you buy a subscription, the transaction is processed by Apple. We and our subscription provider receive purchase and subscription‑status information (for example, plan, renewal status, and a transaction identifier) but not your full payment card details.
- Support communications. If you contact us (e.g., by email), we collect the information you choose to share with us.
Information collected automatically
- Device & usage data. Device type and model, operating system version, app version, language/region, time zone, general usage events and feature interactions, and similar diagnostic data, used to operate and improve the App.
- Identifiers. App‑instance and analytics identifiers, an advertising identifier (only where permitted and after you grant App Tracking Transparency permission on iOS), and push notification tokens.
- Approximate location. We may infer an approximate, city/country‑level location from your IP address. We do not collect precise GPS location.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the Service — scan, recognize text, convert documents, sign, sync, and share files.
- Perform the AI tasks you request.
- Create and secure your account and authenticate you.
- Process subscriptions and provide premium features.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, secure, and improve the App, including diagnosing crashes and errors and understanding which features are used.
- Send you service‑related and, where you have opted in, other notifications.
- Measure marketing performance and attribute app installs.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
AI Features (Important)
Some features use artificial intelligence to process your documents, including: clean‑up of recognized text ("Fix with AI"), table extraction from a page image, document summarization, asking questions about a document, translation, smart file‑name suggestions, and automatic categorization.
When you use one of these features:
- The recognized text and/or the relevant page image(s) are sent — over an encrypted connection, through our backend — to a third‑party AI processing provider (currently OpenRouter, which routes requests to underlying AI model providers such as Google) to generate the result and return it to you.
- We ask for your explicit, one‑time permission inside the App before the first such request, and we remember your choice. You can decline; the non‑AI parts of the App continue to work.
- This content is used only to fulfill your request. It is not used to serve you advertising, and our providers are instructed not to use it to train their AI models.
- AI output can be inaccurate or incomplete. Do not rely on it for important decisions without verifying it yourself (see our Terms).
Cloud Sync & Storage
If you are not signed in, your documents stay on your device and are not uploaded to our servers (aside from the temporary processing needed for a conversion or AI feature you actively trigger).
If you sign in and sync is active, your library — documents, page images, signatures, and saved Office files — is stored on our backend so it can be available across your devices and restored if you reinstall. We host this data with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Files are transmitted over encrypted connections and stored in access‑controlled storage. Generated office files and uploaded images are accessed through short‑lived, signed download links.
Third‑Party Services We Use
We rely on the following service providers, which may process limited information as described above. Each operates under its own privacy policy:
- Google Firebase — authentication, push messaging, remote configuration, and analytics.
- Sign in with Apple — optional authentication.
- Google Sign‑In — optional authentication.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — cloud hosting and document storage.
- OpenRouter (and the underlying AI model providers it routes to, such as Google) — AI processing for the AI features you trigger.
- Adapty — subscription management and analytics.
- Amplitude — product analytics.
- AppsFlyer — install attribution and marketing analytics.
- OneSignal — push notifications and related analytics.
- Meta / Facebook SDK — install attribution and marketing measurement.
- Lokalise — app localization.
- Apple App Store / StoreKit — purchase and subscription processing.
We do not control these third parties and are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to review their policies.
How We Share Information
We share information only as follows: with the service providers listed above to operate the Service; to comply with law, legal process, or lawful requests; to protect the rights, safety, and property of Scanned, our users, or the public; and in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, in which case we will require the recipient to honor this Privacy Policy. We do not sell your personal information.
How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and afterwards only as required to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete or de‑identify the associated cloud data within a reasonable period, except where retention is legally required. Documents stored only on your device are removed when you delete them or uninstall the App. AI providers process your inputs transiently to return a result and do not retain them to train their models.
Your Choices & Rights
- Use without an account. You can scan, save, and export documents without signing in.
- AI consent. You choose whether to enable AI features. You can decline the in‑app permission.
- Tracking (iOS). You can allow or deny App Tracking Transparency, and change it anytime in iOS Settings.
- Notifications. You can disable push notifications in your device settings.
- Access, correction, deletion, portability. You may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal information.
- Delete your account. You can delete your account and associated cloud data from within the App (account/settings), or by contacting us.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under the EU/UK GDPR, Turkey's KVKK (Law No. 6698), or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to know what we collect, to request deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. California residents have the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information; we do not sell personal information. To exercise any right, contact us at scanned@42dijital.com. We will respond within the time required by applicable law. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Security
We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS/SSL), access controls, and signed, time‑limited links for stored files. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International Data Transfers
The Company is based in Turkey, and our service providers operate globally. Your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States and the European Union, which may have different data‑protection rules. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers. By using the Service, you consent to these transfers.
Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Cookies (Website)
Our website (scannedapp.com) may use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for the site to function and to understand basic site usage. The Scanned mobile app does not use advertising cookies and does not display third‑party ads. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
